I often get angry messages asking why Inuit are hunting “sweet animals”…

Seal hunting is not a sport — it’s a way of life. It’s how you feed your families, use every part of the animal with respect, and continue traditions in balance with nature.

Before judging, try to understand the context. This is sustainable, local, and deeply rooted in who Inuit are.

And here in Greenland, many people are shocked that other countries eat meat from animals raised in poor conditions, like in captivity…far from nature.

A few images from my trip to Greenland last year, which is just the most amazing place to visit. These are all Viking sites, including the ruins of the cathedral complex of Gardar (now Igaliku) and the farmstead ruins of Brattahlid (now Qassiarsuk), where Erik the Red lived with his family and from where (according to the Sagas) Leif Eriksson sailed for America.

Greenland is surprisingly easy to get to (we flew from Copenhagen), although trips there do involve a bit of planning.
