A walk through Ittoqqortoormiit.
One of the most remote villages in the world and home to just a few hundred people, Ittoqqortoormiit is surrounded by endless Arctic wilderness. We spent the afternoon wandering through the village, meeting some of the locals, and seeing daily life in a place so far removed from everything else.
The colourful buildings were originally painted to help people identify their purpose, like yellow for hospitals, blue for workshops, and red for commercial buildings. Today the owners are free to choose any colour they like for their homes, adding personality and warmth to the quiet Arctic village.
Moments like these remind me how special it is to explore with Quark Expeditions, and to experience places few people ever get to see.

Looking back on my last fish in Greenland for the 2025 season.
After landing this one, it was mid afternoon and although there were a few hours left in the day, I couldn’t bring myself to cast another line and spoil a perfect ending.
This neon backed, firetruck red flanked, charcoal bellied boy is a dream fish I would not have imagined possible a few years ago, let alone all the others I’ve been lucky enough to encounter. It had always been my dream to travel to Greenland and be able to fish for Sea Run Char.
When my grandfather passed away in 2022 it sent a shockwave through our entire family. He was a great man and a huge role model to all of us, but one thing that stuck above all else, was his adventurous side and positive willingness to make things happen. It made me realise you can’t wait for the right time to come around, you’ve got to grab the opportunity while you can.
In 2023 I decided to go for it and went on my first adventure to Erfalik in Greenland with getawayflyfishing . For me it was a life changing experience, I don’t think I’ve gone a day since without thinking and dreaming about it and the possibility of a next adventure. But even then, I treated it and respected it as if it would be the last time.
Now after 3 summers exploring Erfalik, Camp North and Kangia, Greenland has delivered time and time again and with every ending to a trip, I always take a moment to reflect, for my grandfather and for what these adventures mean to me, as you never know when your last time may be.
That afternoon after spending the last few hours with guests, I took a slow solo walk back to Kangia lodge, taking in every moment as always, as if it were my last.
With me every step of the way, I carry a small totem, coloured in Burgundy in memory of my Grandfather. The why of it is another story and the object itself is not so important, a hat, a watch, a jacket…. So long as it’s burgundy, I will always carry his memory where ever I go.
Now as always, I dearly hope to come back year after year and share the same love and experience with others seeking the joys of what Greenland and these magnificent fish can offer.
