Ogni viaggio per me inizia prima della partenza, spesso con molto anticipo.
La prima volta che andai in Norvegia partii con molti mesi di anticipo. Stesso discorso per l`Islanda.
Ogni viaggio, poi, non sempre si conclude con il ritorno a casa.
In Norvegia, sempre lei, ci rimasi per oltre un anno e, ad essere sincera, una parte di me è ancora là. Il viaggio in Puglia del settembre 2023 è iniziato 35 anni fa e non è ancora finito.
Per la Groenlandia è stato diverso: son partita il giorno dopo, con il secondo volo: Copenaghen – Narsarsuaq. Ma comunque, anche da lì, non son proprio sicura di essere tornata del tutto.
Ogni tanto mi scopro alienata. Scopro che la mia mente si è rifugiata là, a ridosso del Circolo Polare Artico, 61° di latitudine nord, nel silenzio.
Cosa ti manca della Groenlandia? Il silenzio.
Ma poi, cosa significa Groenlandia?
Narsarsuaq, Brattahlíð, Qordlortoq, Tasiusaq, Sillisit, Igaliku.
Pochi km quadrati di un territorio vasto oltre ogni umana immaginazione, dove anche il pensiero si perde a pensarlo, un territorio così.
Green Land. Narra la leggenda che Erik il Rosso battezzò così la terra su cui si trovò esiliato, con lo scopo di attirare quanti più coloni possibili dall`Islanda, Ice Land, la terra del ghiaccio. Marketing ante litteram.
Io non lo so cosa vide, Erik il Rosso. So cosa ho visto io. So cosa ho camminato, cosa ho respirato, cosa ho sentito. Cosa non ho sentito. Il silenzio, dicevamo.
Ritmi antichi ed essenziali, tramandati di generazione in generazione, gli antenati riposano sulle colline davanti al fiordo, sui campi che hanno contribuito a fondare. Godono di una pace antica, un ritorno a fondersi materialmente con la terra sferzata dai venti del Nord, ovattata nella luce fioca di un mattino nebbioso.
Se provo a raccontare della tundra, degli arbusti, gli acquitrini, i sentieri delle pecore, i voli delle aquile, il lavoro dei cani pastore.
Se provo a raccontare dell`aria gelida che spira dalla calotta polare.
Resti di animali, resti di lingue glaciali, le regole non sovrascrivibili di terre dure, avare, rigogliose. Maestose, ho i brividi.

Architecture in focus: A closer look at Nuuk Airport
Our team recently returned from a two-day photoshoot to one of our signature aviation projects — Nuuk Airport.
Designed to blend with Greenland’s dramatic natural features while standing as a bold architectural statement, this building has been a milestone for our studio — from initial concept through to completion.
In collaboration with Adam Grønne, we focused on capturing the play of light, texture, and form that defines the building’s character throughout the day — from the morning reflections to the dramatic dusk silhouettes.
A special thanks to Greenland Airports for their warm support and for sharing their beautiful airport with us.
Beyond its architectural presence, the airport provides a welcoming and efficient travel experience for passengers, supports the needs of users, and strengthens connectivity and opportunities for the local community.
We look forward to soon sharing the final images and the story behind the design.

Geweldige landschappen (swipe ⬅️), maar toch ook wel wat uitdagender fotograferen op Groenland. Vanop een kleine boot kan je niet vanop statief werken (wat ik anders zo goed als altijd wel doe) en verandert je compositie ook heel vaak door de bewegingen van het schip.
Dat betekent: zoeken naar de juiste voorgrondelementen en veel verschillende shots nemen, zodat je achteraf de beste versies kunt selecteren (Je moet sowieso veel foto’s maken in zo’n situaties, want de kans op onscherpe beelden is groter).
Daarnaast wil je je sluitertijd in de gaten houden (zodat die niet te lang wordt), je ISO wat hoger zetten en je belichting goed instellen (je zal moeten overbelichten op bewolkte dagen om het ijs goed in beeld te brengen en opletten dat het ijs niet uitbrandt bij zonnige omstandigheden).
Maar als alles goed zit, levert het wel mooie plaatjes op 😉.
